Jesus, they say you are just a glorified man,
Not God incarnate, no piercings in Your hand!
And, I am told that one day I will be as Thee,
My good works gaining me great majesty!
So, Father, to what purpose is the “Pearl of Great Price?
Was it really needful to send Your revelations, twice?
The gospel and its letters to me seem quite complete,
Lord, I see no need to add to your words—so sweet!
And is man’s eternal happiness measure by his many wives?
Or, Lord, is it how unto thee we consecrate our lives?
These sayings are perplexing, causing my spirit to be smitten,
For, Lord, in your word, I have found it to be written:
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”! (John 1:1) “And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth”. (John 1:14)
