Redemption (1973-1976)

Calvary—a place of tears, agony, want and despair.
A place called the “skull”, there our sins you did bare!
With repeated echoes of each hammered nail,
We are reminded that it is by Your blood, we’ve gained victory ‘ore hell!

Your precious blood spilling from each wound in Your flesh,
Purchased for our souls the gift and offer of starting afresh!
Though Your body was tormented, You laid naked and in need,
You found compassion, and on a cross, a thief was set free!

Oh, this was not the end of Your sorrow, suffering and grief,
There yet was before you a journey—a place of gnashing of teeth!
Hanging Your head, You gave up the ghost,
And, God declared You, “our Righteousness” before all the heavenly host!

Thank you, Lord, for carrying my guilt and shame,
For suffering unto the death, releasing me from all blame!
Yes, redemption is simple, at least for me,
But, sweet Jesus, was it for thee?
